Retro-blog: Nesting

I am going back to pick up a few things that I missed so I don't forget...

Nesting. With my first 2 pregnancies, I thought that this concept just meant that the hormonal pregnant lady was trying to clean up a little bit around the house. I spent a lot of time getting Jane Bradley's nursery just right, but I didn't really consider that nesting so much as shop-a-holic meets extreme boredom.

Poor Beckham didn't get much preparation at all. I put up the baby bed in his room, borrowed some bedding and stuck a few hodge-podge pieces of furniture in there. There were a few boy-room ideas floating around in my head, but they never came in for a landing... Actually, his nursery was never finished for some reason.

Luckily, this last time, the nesting "need" was triple strength. The problem was, I hadn't planned to do a nursery because I didn't know the sex of the baby, and I didn't want to do green or yellow. I cleaned (although there is currently not a square inch of evidence), and I planned, and I made lists, and I lost them (because of my severe case of pregnant brain) and I made new lists. Still, it didn't satisfy the OVERWHELMING need to complete every project that had ever been started or even thought about before the pregnancy. I feared that I would never have a moment to work on anything again, and i needed it all to be done... now.

Well, since I couldn't make a nursery, I redid everyone else's room! Jane Bradley was moving upstairs, and Beckham was moving into a big bed. I bought beds, mattresses, bedding, and redid some of my own furniture. Sure did help with the nesting bug! Here are some pics:

Bed delivery day!

Trying it out!

Beckham's new room!
JB didn't know I was even working on her room - it was a big surprise - She love LOVED it!

A few vintage furniture finds made the project really fun and alot of work!  Thanks to Nanny for painting the walls and arranging all of the decor for the big reveal!!

Nesting paid off - JB was thrilled!

FAQ: Who does she look like?

One more of the most frequently asked questions: Who does she look like?

My answer is usually, "She looks like JB," but really, all of my babies look a lot alike. When I had JB, I thought she looked very different than I expected. I think I was expecting an older looking baby? I didn't expect the swolen, squinty eyed newborn look. When I had Beckham and saw a very similar face looking up at me, I was so happy that I got to see it again. I was looking forward to it even more the third time because I knew what was coming!

Holding these Madden babies makes me want a dozen more :)

Well, I found some pictures that showed a little what I am talking about... These are all somewhere between 4 and 10 weeks or so. This picture of Brooke is the youngest (4 wks).

Retroblog: Brooke's Baby Shower

I have mentioned it before, but I live on THE coolest street on the planet. I often refer to it as "The Village" since, you know, "It takes a village to raise a child," And this street helps each other out. And throws surprise baby showers for the resident pregnant mamas.... or mama.

I was coming over for a relaxing neighborhood grill-out night, and when I walked in the door, I was excited to see this:

This is how they remedied the surprise baby situation on the cake
Here's a quick run-down:

Yet another pre-baby moment when Beckham really doesn't understand what all of this is about...

but as long as there's cake, he's all good

Sweet notes from small friends

POO-DAT! Hilarious!

This girl loves baby showers... Or any type of shower where she gets to open presents...

Baby Shower where he gets to float in the pool... Brad can handle that.

It was a super-fun way to celebrate Baby Brooke!
